Director’s Message

Jeff Dror, Director

Jeff Dror, Director

At the Institute for Fundamental Theory (IFT), our mission is to cultivate an environment where curiosity, collaboration, and critical inquiry converge. I am honored to lead the Institute as we continue to explore the frontiers of fundamental physics and mathematics.

Our vision centers on making the IFT a regional hub for theoretical physics, strengthening partnerships with nearby institutions and fostering an active community of researchers across disciplines. Through workshops, visitor programs, and collaborative initiatives, we aim to bring together scientists to tackle the deepest questions in fundamental theory, from high-energy physics and cosmology to condensed matter and mathematics.

By connecting researchers at all stages of their careers, the IFT cultivates a dynamic environment where ideas and interdisciplinary collaborations flourish.

Mathematics serves as a unifying language across our research, often revealing the hidden structures that nature employs. By fostering interaction among diverse fields, the Institute continues the legacy of curiosity-driven exploration that has defined IFT since its founding.

We invite you to engage with us—through our programs, events, and collaborations—and join us in the pursuit of understanding the natural world.

Honoring Our Past Directors

Peter Hirschfeld Under Peter Hirschfeld’s leadership, the IFT flourished as a hub of interdisciplinary collaboration, with a strengthened research community and a renewed spirit of intellectual curiosity.
Pierre Ramond Pierre Ramond, founding director of the IFT in 1990, established its vision of connecting physicists and mathematicians to explore the fundamental laws of nature.
